ANNOUNCING

MORE NIGHTS OF NORTHERN LIGHTS

Seasons 40 to 50 of the Weathervane Theatre

A brand new book coming Fall 2015

A companion to the 40th Season Commemorative

In celebration of the Weathervane Theatre’s 40th Season, the Weathervane Alumni Association

published “Nights of Northern Lights”—a commemorative history of the theatre. The 224 page

hardcover limited edition book was printed by the prestigious Stinehour Press of Lunenburg,

Vermont, chronicled the history of theatre in Whitefield, through narratives, anecdotes and

stories and over 600 photographs of productions. The book was honored as a Performing Arts

finalist in the 2006 Independent Publisher Book Awards.

This year, to celebrate the 50th Season, a companion volume, encompassing the years from 2005

through 2015, is being designed. It will follow the format of the earlier publication, and will

include company lists, production photos as well as articles on major events, such as the tragic

2011 fire that destroyed the original Weathervane Barn and the rebuilding that followed. In

addition, stories and letters collected over the years from both alumni and community members, of memories, impressions, and last effects of the Weathervane Theatre will be featured.

The book will be released in the Fall of 2015, and available for pre-sale during the summer

season. Remaining copies of the original book will also once again be available, either singly, or

in a set with the new edition.

It’s Better in

a Barn

- Celebrating 50 Seasons -

A Show

On Saturday August 22, at 8 PM on the Weathervane Theatre Mainstage, the Weathervane Alumni Association will present “It’s Better in a Barn –50 Seasons of Weathervane” a one-time- only benefit performance to celebrate the 50th Season of the Weathervane Theatre.

Join us and celebrate the essence of what makes the Weathervane Theatre a beloved place in so many hearts-as we recapture some favorite moments and create new ones through songs, skits, stories and pictures—honoring the place and the people who have helped to make and sustain this unique theatre.

The alumni show has been an annual event produced by the Weathervane Theatre Alumni Association since 2000, with alums from various seasons joining together to perform songs, skits and tell stories.

If you have never participated in one of these performances—on or off stage—and would like to, please get in touch performers, music directors, choreographers, stage management, techs are all welcome—let us know if you want to be involved.

How Does the Show Get Put Together?

There will be rehearsals during July and August in New York City for performers who are available to rehearse then. If you can’t make those rehearsals, it doesn’t mean you can’t be in the show-- there will

be also be rehearsals in Whitefield on Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22. We will do everything we can to make it easy and possible for alumni to be ready to take stage and take part in the

celebration.

Our Events
More Than Fundraising...

The Weathervane Theatre Alumni Association sponsors a variety of events to support and promote the mission of the organization. In addition to raising funds, the events provide opportunities for alumni to network, volunteer and strengthen their connection to the ongoing efforts of the association and the theatre. The events are organized and performed almost entirely by volunteers.

Alumni Weekend

Each July the alumni association sponsors a reunion weekend in Whitefield, N. H. that features a fundraising performance at the Weathervane Theatre. Rehearsals are held at the historic Chase Barn Theatre which entertained Whitefield audiences prior to the existence of the Weathervane from 1934 until 1962. The weekend includes a cocktail reception and cabaret evening that provide opportunities for alumni to network and socialize. Following the show, alumni, current company members, friends and family come together for a cookout on the grounds of the Spruces, the theatre's summer residence. The first alumni show was entitled Alive at 35. Presented during the theatre's 35th anniversary season, the show was a retrospective of the theatre’s history from 1966 until 2000. Other alumni shows have included The Best Musicals You’ve Never Seen (On the Weathervane Stage),
a collection of songs from musicals never produced at the Weathervane and New Voices For a New Theatre, a celebration of mostly new and emerging musical theatre writers. New Voices For a New Theatre was the first production to be held in the Weathervane's new theatre.

Other Events

In February 2001, the WVAA gathered at Lincoln Center for a winter gala. Over 50 Weathervane alumni met to socialize and network amidst the massive beauty of the Vivian Beaumont lobby at Lincoln Center. Many had not reconnected since their summers together in Whitefield.

Other events have included social gatherings in New York and Los Angeles, such as cocktail receptions, performances of fellow alumni at various theatres and cabaret rooms, and readings of new plays and musicals. These events bring alumni together outside Whitefield. They are an excellent opportunity to network and also provide a forum to communicate WVAA and Weathervane Theatre updates. The WVAA events continue to strengthen and grow the organization as we move forward with our mission.
